Who is the german statutory accident insurance?
The German Social Accident Insurance e. V. (DGUV) is the umbrella organisation of the German Social Accident Insurance Institutions for trade and industry and the public sector accident insurance institutions. The nine industrial Berufsgenossenschaften are oriented according to industry.
The public sector accident insurance institutions are divided into 16 accident insurance funds, three municipal accident insurance associations, four fire brigade accident insurance funds and the Federal and Railway Accident Insurance. The umbrella organisation was formed on 1 June 2007 by merging the Federation of Institutions for Statutory Accident Insurance and Prevention (Hauptverband der gewerblichen Berufsgenossenschaften e. V. (HVBG)) with the Federal Association of Accident Insurance Funds (BUK). The accident insurance institutions have the statutory mandate to prevent accidents at work and at school, as well as occupational diseases and work-related health hazards.
The association looks after the common interests of its members and promotes their tasks for the benefit of insured persons and companies.
It represents the statutory accident insurance institutions vis-à-vis politicians, federal, state, European and other national and international institutions and social partners.
What does the german statutory accident insurance do?
The specialist departments with their respective subject areas are direct contacts for the accident insurance institutions. The specialist divisions include supervisors and other prevention experts from the accident insurance institutions, representatives of the DGUV and its institutes, representatives of the social partners, the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (BMAS), the federal states, manufacturers and operators, and special experts. In addition, the DGUV also includes prevention committees and prevention bodies such as the committee on initial and continuing training and the committee on occupational medicine.
How many members does the german statutory accident insurance have?
In 2019, more than 4 million companies and institutions were members of the DGUV. Of the companies, 3.4 million fell under the jurisdiction of the Social Accident Insurance Institutions for Trade and Industry; the public-sector accident insurance institutions looked after around 680,000 companies and institutions. In 2019, around 65.5 million people were insured with the DGUV's accident insurance institutions against the consequences of accidents at work, on the way to and from school, as well as occupational diseases.
